PixFiler Editor's Review
'PixFiler' helps you catalog your pictures. It not only displays thumbnails of your images, but it allows you to choose their size as well. Whenever one of these thumbnails is selected, the main window displays the original image. This preview image is automatically resized to fit the main window. You can use PixFiler to enter details about each of your images. These details include an id (automatically generated), a date, a place, an event, and a description by default. You can easily add new fields to the database, containing the details of the images.
The program can generate Web pages, containing images from a specified section of your catalog. It also supports batch copying and resizing images, exporting or importing a list of images, and even creating a CD/DVD containing a slideshow of images.
All the important picture formats are supported. You can view EXIF metadata, if your pictures contain it. The user interface has a white background by default, but you can change its color. The toolbar buttons don't look very nice, but they offer quick access to the program's features.
Pluses: PixFiler offers an extra navigation panel, which enables you to sort your pictures based on their details. It can also be used to print your pictures, allowing you to add a header and a footer text to the printed images.
Drawbacks / flaws: I tried to modify the program's preferences, but nothing was updated until I restarted the program. I also noticed that the "Background color" and the "Gamma adjustment" sliders (from the "Preferences" dialog) didn't work.
In conclusion: PixFiler gave me the impression that it's not finished, yet.
